What 'Sense' Do You Use To View The World

Do you notice how sometimes you just click with someone, they seem to be on the same wave length as you and understand everything you are saying, and then there are others which we can't seem to talk to, and they seem to be talking in a different language?

Well may be they are...

Whatever and whenever we experience anything we often use all our senses, smell, sound, touch, sight, taste and this helps us absorb that experience. However, most of us have a primary sense which affects the way we make sense of the world; these are Feeling (Kinaesthetic), Sight (Visual), and Hearing (Auditory).

We all tend to lean more strongly to one of these types so what type are you?
  1. When asked a question do you notice which way your eyes move
    1. Side to Side
    2. Look Upwards
    3. Look Down

  2. What words do you tend to use?
    1. 'Hear, Sounds good, discuss, don't like your tone, rhythm, volume, are we singing the same tune?'
    2. 'Coloured, vision, view, perspective, fuzzy, clouded, clear, detailed, wide-angle, hazy, notion, see what I mean?'
    3. 'Touch, feel, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife, heavy, light, pressure, running with it, hold on, handy, you get my drift?'

  3. Do you...
    1. Breathe and speak in a more rhythmic, clear and resonant tone
    2. Usually speak quickly
    3. Do you speak in a low, deeper tone, relaxed

  4. When talking or listening is your head often...
    1. Leaning to one side
    2. Held up
    3. Head down

If you answer mainly...

a's = Auditory / Hearing - you will probably be very fussy about the music you listen to and noise will have a big affect on you.

b's = Visual / Sight - you may find you picture a car journey you are unsure of before you start, you will picture things in your mind.

c's = Kinaesthetic / Feelings - you are sensitive to the emotions that are around you and will often be more deeply affected by a 'bad atmosphere' than others.

We are often all of the above, but one usually stands ou more than others. Listen and watch friends and family and see if you can decide what modality they are; use their language and see if you get on better...

There are other modalities that we use such as taste (Gustatory), the words used here are:

'a nose for business, sniffing things out, the sweet smell of success, that behaviour stinks'

Another one is smell (Olfactory), types of expressions used by this modality are:

'a taste for the good life, chew the fat, spice up your life, sweet success, bitter disappointment'

There are some people who think in terms of language and symbols, this is often called digital. Their speech is usually monotone, and their breathing pattern shallow and slightly restrictive and information is logical and to the point.
